iPhone Users Are Warned About A Small Orange Dot At The Top Of The Screen

iPhone users have been ‘warned’ about noticing a little orange dot at the top of their screen.

A TikToker known as @mrjamienyland has caused quite a stir among his followers.

He posted a video where he cautions viewers to ‘get help’ if they spot an orange dot on their iPhone screen.

Though this warning might come off as a bit over the top, it’s certainly something worth looking into or debunking, especially for anyone considering the purchase of the upcoming iPhone 15.

Next month, Apple is set to showcase all the updates for the iPhone with a dazzling and impressive presentation.

The early buzz around the device hints that we might see slightly thinner bezels and rounder edges, reminiscent of the earlier iPhone models.

It’s also expected that the next iOS version will maintain a familiar feature, the orange dot.

“If you see this orange dot on your phone, you need to get help seriously fast,” @mrjamienyland commented alongside his video.

He went on to explain: “If you see an orange dot like this on top of your iPhone, this means someone is listening to you.

“It’s been all over the news, and in fact the orange dot is a warning sign from Apple that someone is using your microphone without your permission.

“If you have no apps open and this is still there, then someone is spying on your phone and listening to your conversations.

“So if you see this orange dot, turn your phone off immediately and go and get help.”

The response to his video was a mix of emotions.

One person said: “I’m getting pretty scared now,” another expressed: “I’m so scared,” and a third exclaimed: “WHAAAATTTT!?!?”

However, many of his followers – and rightly so – have noted that the dot doesn’t automatically mean someone is eavesdropping.

It simply indicates that one of the phone’s apps is accessing the microphone.

“Just means your mic is live, not that someone is listening in,” one TikToker clarified.

Another reassured: “It just means the microphone is in use.”

While a third explained: “It doesn’t mean someone’s listening to you, it means there’s an app using your microphone or was using it recently.”

Apple

These comments are supported by Apple itself.

The company has a section on its website that addresses why users might occasionally see an orange dot on their screen.

Apple clarifies: “An orange indicator means the microphone is being used by an app on your iPhone.”

You might also see a green dot appearing on the top right-hand corner of your screen.

According to Apple, the green dot ‘means either the camera or the camera and the microphone are being used by an app on your iPhone’.
